Dr. Nancy Evers

Professor Story

If you were to ask a regular person to close their eyes and think back to when they were in school, you would hear all about their friends and some unforgettable experiences. But ask a teacher to think back to their time as a student, and you will often hear them speak about their favorite teachers as well. Great teachers are hard to forget: they may be brilliant or unconventional, outgoing or reclusive, strict or lenient. But they all have one thing in common: they are inspiring. Those lucky enough to have amazing teachers often cite them as a major reason they dedicated their life to education.

In her 40 years as an educator, Dr. Nancy Evers has inspired countless students to become teachers…and countless more to become leaders in education. Dr. Evers’ inspiration was her father, a respected life-long educator. Like many children, she resisted the urge to get into the “family business.” But while she was in high school in the 60’s (as the nation was gripped with violence, tragedy, and social reform) she began to understand the power of—and need for—education. “I realized that education was foundational in everything. From that point forward, education became my life’s work.”

It not just about being a great teacher, but recognizing your ability to dramatically affect the lives of the students around you. “Helping our students develop into leaders and preparing them to improve the field of education is my true purpose.” The UC professors accomplish this by incorporating the most current and valid knowledge into the curriculum; by engaging students in readings, field implementation, and reflective thought; and by creating a synergistic environment where terrific students from all over the world can share their unique experiences. “With our cohort model, the interaction between students is extraordinary—the learning explodes exponentially.”

The University of Cincinnati is committed to social justice, transformational leadership, collaborative decision making, and reflective inquiry. “If you believe in the power of education, then consider joining our amazing community of learning. It is a decision I made 34 years ago, and I am honored to say that with UC I am really living my life’s mission.”
