The Classroom
THE MANY FACES OF LEADERSHIP
An Educational Leadership degree is about options. Many teachers love the classroom and working directly with students, but know that they can do more. This program will help you become a better teacher and make a greater impact in the lives of your students. Every graduate who leaves the Educational Leadership program also gains something incredibly valuable beyond the degree itself: confidence. This cannot be taught directly, but it is something you gain as you collaborate with your cohort, as you embark on your Principal Clinical Internship, or as you gain the exceptional insight of your faculty and facilitators. As a teacher you understand that knowledge is power—with UC’s Educational Leadership degree you will gain the knowledge and ability to help all students by:
- Promoting a positive school culture, providing an effective instructional program, and applying best practice to student learning
- Managing resources in a way that promotes a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment
- Collaborating with families and other community members, responding to diverse interests, and mobilizing resources
- Acting with integrity, fairly and in an ethical manner
- Understanding, responding to, and influencing the larger political, social, economic, legal and cultural context
Even if you are a dedicated classroom teacher, situations may arise in your future leading you to a position in administration. Will your degree allow you to transition into the role? An Educational Leadership helps make that opportunity possible.
“UC’s MEd program material was very well rounded and gave me a lot of different perspectives on different issues. It dispelled the assumptions you might have as a teacher that you have to be a principal to be a leader. Leadership happens on all levels.”
- Joe Rodgers, Master of Education Educational Leadership Graduate
“I get to apply the things I learned immediately especially when dealing with parents and colleagues. I feel this degree is very knowledge based and taught me how to lead successfully. You also learn a lot of do’s and don’ts in the program. It prepared me for the next level.”
