Reciprocity & Principal Licensure
THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF RECIPROCITY
Licensure through the Educational Leadership program can happen in one of two ways (it is important to check these often, as state requirements change frequently):
- NCATE* Reciprocity—The Master of Education in Educational Leadership distance learning program is accredited through the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)*. NCATE is the profession’s mechanism to help establish high-quality teacher and administrator preparation and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a professional accrediting body for colleges and universities. Many states provide licensure based solely on graduation from an NCATE-accredited institution. Click here to view NCATE reciprocity.
- State of Ohio Reciprocity— Graduates of the University of Cincinnati Educational Leadership distance learning program are qualified for principal licensure in the state of Ohio. The National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC)** have negotiated licensure reciprocity agreements among states. This means that if you earn licensure in Ohio you may be able to gain licensure in your own state based on proof of a valid Ohio license. NASDTEC (pronounced naz-duh-tek) agreements can be found by clicking here.
Please note: requirements for licensure can change without notice, so it is important to contact your State Department of Education to confirm reciprocity with your state. The U.S. Department of Education list of state contacts and information can be found here. NCATE also keeps an updated list of personal contacts by state, which may prove useful to you.
