Hi, I am Japanese and my native language is not English. I graduated from a university in the US last year and earned a bachelor’s degree. Do I still have to take the TOEFL to prove my English proficiency to apply for your program? Thank you!

  • Thomas Furio says:

Hi Shu! Thank you for your interest in the graduate programs here at UC. I would have to know more about the university where you earned your degree and know what you studied, but typically overseas students that graduate from a U.S. university degree program would be exempt from the TOEFL requirement. Please contact me at 800-226-0075 ext. 357 so that we can discuss this in further detail. I look forward to speaking with you.

Does the Masters in TESOL require prior teaching experience and/or teaching licensure?

  • Thomas Furio says:

Hello PJ – Our Master of Education program with a TESOL concentration does not require that you hold a teacher’s license. It also does not require specific teaching experience though this is something that we should discuss in greater detail to determine if the program would be appropriate for you. I would love to answer any further questions that you may have about our program please feel free to contact me at 800-226-0075 ext. 357.
